BY CAR
Alternatively you can drive down yourself by taking either a ferry or the Channel Tunnel.
The French toll motorways (around 40 euros each way) are silky smooth and the route all the way through the centre of France is straight forward and it is great to see the scenery and the climate change as you go. The route also takes in the magnificent Millau Bridge, the tallest vehicular bridge in the world.
